Gallery DeNovo features Melissa Herrington’s "HANDless" at the Los Angeles Art Show
Project Space 1-240 January 19 – 23, 2011 Los Angeles Convention Center West Hall A, 1201 South Figueroa Street
Los Angeles artist Melissa Herrington has created a powerful allegory in her abstract concept of her latest exhibition Handless to be featured at the Los Angeles Art Show in project space 1240. Herrington creates within each painting a repetition of lines and unrecognizable shapes that reveal an atmosphere of clusters and abundance, giving off an impression of complexity and expansion. Her acrylic mixed media, resin on wood, plaster, moss, and found objects create a series of paintings and sculptural installation entitled HANDless.
“My recent paintings physically protrude beyond two dimensions,” says Herrington. “The [wood] support and the painted image are inseparable, encased in a thick layer of resin.” Inspired by the poetry of Anne Sexton and Margaret Atwood, Herrington blended the narratives of their poems with her own aesthetic to conceive a body of work exploring the subterranean world of transformation.
In this exhibition, viewers can expect a subtle and familiar color palate inspired by the natural world, yet freshly presented through Herrington’s perspective. Combined with her unique layering technique and amorphous, symbolic language, these paintings work in concert, to invite further consideration.
Gallery DeNovo features the unique and compelling contemporary paintings, sculpture, photography, and printmaking of internationally recognized artists. The gallery was established by collectors with the objective of gaining exposure in the United States for these exceptional artists. The gallery is located in Sun Valley/Ketchum, Idaho, 208-720-5457.
